That leaves these dynasty orphan teams available for those who just cannot get enough! You can find dynasty orphans on just about any paid fantasy football platform, like RTSports, MyFantasyLeague, DataForceFF, Scout Fantasy, and FFPC. I actually just bought a dynasty orphan on FFPC.
1. Youth - The point of a having a dynasty team is to field a contender year after year. You want younger players who are consistent point producers that will be on your team for at least the next three years. Although they can help, you should avoid buying teams with too many aging veterans. My rules of thumb (most people actually) regarding age are running backs should be no older than 26, and wide receiver should be no older than 28. Unlike the running back position, it's ok to have a quarterback over the age of 30 when looking for dynasty orphans to buy.
2. Lots of draft picks - Many times you have dynasty orphans where owners mortgage their present for the future, trading assets for future draft picks. These owners sometimes trade away too much, then end up losing for at least a couple of seasons then end up getting rid of their team because they get tired of losing. They are duped by the sexiness of having draft picks. Draft picks are the bright new shiny things that have that magnetic attraction. People are just drawn to draft picks. Experienced dynasty owners know that draft picks, high or low, don't always pan out. They also know that draft picks are easily the most trade-able asset because of that magnetic attraction.
3. Playable players - Again, draft picks don't always pan out. You still need players to fill out your lineup, preferably the younger, consistent point producers mentioned earlier. Filling out your roster with consistent VETERAN point producers won't hurt either. You still want to win games, and championships, all while developing your dynasty team to consistently win for your duration of ownership of the team.
4. Star players who are coming back from injury - Usually, players who have an injury history scare me off. But sometimes players coming off injury the prior year can help you win right after you purchase an orphan. One dynasty orphan I bought back in 2017 had Todd Gurley and Keenan Allen, both were injured the season prior. Those two led that team to a championship that year, and a playoff run in the 2018 season. I might have been extremely lucky that season; but it can happen to you also, as long as you take into consideration the talent and team the injured player is on before you invest in a team with injuries to star players.
I've been playing dynasty for the past six years now. I've bought, sold, and started up dynasty teams. I've won champions with dynasty orphans, and I've dumped dynasty orphans that were absolute garbage that I should not have invested in the first place. Dynasty orphans are just like any other successful reclamation project, it takes patience, persistence, and pure passion to win.
